🔦This week we are spotlighting Mrs. Ungar's Class:
This week, first grade got to have World in my Backyard come to school! The students in my class learned about different Native American tribes and how they survived in different parts of our country. They learned about how different tribes built houses based on where they lived. For example, some tribes made houses that they could easily move to live near bison, others built igloos that lived in the snow, others made houses out of clay, and one tribe even built their houses high off the ground, so alligators could not get inside. Students got to wear different Native American clothes from different tribes, bang on drums, pretend to hunt for food, and dance following their chief. They also learned other fun facts such as how the Rockabye Baby song was created.

What a JOY it is to have Mrs. D'Alessandro on our team! She has been a long time Terrific Tomahawk and is one of our all time favorites! Her students are always engaged and eager to learn in her room. She goes above and beyond to make learning fun and takes every opportunity to push her students! She loves her students as her own and works to meet their individual needs every day. She is an amazing teammate and just an all around amazing person. WE are beyond grateful that Mrs. D is a Tomahawk!
Tip of the Week from Mrs. D:
As a parent myself, I know this is hard to do but we need to let our children make mistakes and struggle at times. This is when children learn how to overcome obstacles, become problem solvers and learn how to accept constructive criticism. With the right amount of support and guidance, students will become confident problem solvers and learn that working hard will lead to success!

Ms. Cogan’s homeroom had a great experience working with Mr. Hobson during Eagles class today. Students participated in a variety of Thanksgiving-themed math activities that challenged their math and logic skills. Through engaging puzzles and problems, they practiced critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. It was a fun and meaningful way to celebrate the season while strengthening academic skills!

My class has been working hard learning about Veterans Day this week! We learned about the 5 different branches of the US armed forces and where they work to keep us safe. Students got to complete some Veteran’s Day & Thanksgiving themed activities throughout the week!

Check out this weeks Tomahawk of the Week, Bethany Russell! Have you had a chance to meet her yet? If not, what are you waiting for? She is one of those teachers that is the example of great teaching! She has a way of putting forth her best effort AND her best attitude every single day. She is a master teacher and one of those teachers that can't be found NOT doing whatever it takes to meet the needs of her kids. Do yourself a favor and drop by for a minutes and see what she is all about it. We know she makes us better and we are sure lucky to have her at HES!
Tip of the Week from Ms. Russell:
Help kids become more independent by giving them jobs and letting them take charge of their own learning. Encourage them to set goals, keep track of their progress, and think about what’s working or not. When they see that what they do matters, they start to take real pride in their work and feel more confident.

Mrs. Dudla’s fourth-grade class recently wrapped up their swim lessons with a splashy finale at the Indian Land YMCA: friendly water games, cooperative challenges, and plenty of cheering each other on. From mastering floating and kicking to enjoying fun competitions, the experience celebrated their growth in confidence, resilience, and teamwork. Congrats to the team for diving in and finishing strong!

Mrs Porter comes to Harrisburg with a wealth of knowledge and a love for children. Although this is her first time working with our exceptional learners, she has shown an amazing ability to adapt, modify, and learn about what helps each child ! She is pleasant, intuitive and a friend to all. She sends her daughter to class each day by telling her be sweet and be kind. That is the exact motto that Mrs. Porter lives by every day! We are so thankful to have Mrs Porter on our team!!

Mrs. Loncar’s first grade class are “batty” about Bats! We have gathered facts through books and videos. We labeled important body parts of a bat. We also had fun finding the 24 hidden bats around the room that had sight words on them to record. We are bat experts!

Ms. Jenkins is such a bright light....she has returned to our staff with the same enthusiasm, positivity and for heart kids that we so fondly remember and we couldn't be happier to have her back! She makes everyday special for the class and her students. She goes out of her way to show love to each one of her kids and her teammates. We are so happy to have Hannah as a Tomahawk!
