Shane Ferron is a perfect choice for Tomahawk of the Week because of the steady, quiet leadership he brings to our school each day. He leads by example through his strong work ethic, careful attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to doing what is best for students. Shane is incredibly reliable and dependable—someone you can always count on to step in, step up, and make sure things are done the right way. So much of his work is "behind the scenes" but his hard work and dedication make a tremendously meaningful difference in our school community every single day. He also happens to be funny, supportive, and one of the nicest people we know! We love Shane and are so very glad he is a Tomahawk!
Tip of the Week from Mr. Ferron: Building relationships with students can significantly reduce behavior challenges. One simple strategy is the 2×10 method: spend two minutes a day for ten days talking with a student about something other than school. Those smaller connections often lead to big changes in behavior.

In our classroom, students have been exploring measurement conversions through engaging, hands-on activities. They practiced measuring items around the room to the nearest quarter inch and created their own “Gallon Man” diagrams to help memorize important conversion facts.

Andrea Kebert is a fantastic addition to Tomahawk Nation! Have you seen her teach? If not, RUN to see what she is doing. She brings a positive attitude to school each day that is contagious to both students and staff. She consistently shares creative and innovative ideas for extending learning and has played an important role in helping us navigate some new ways of thinking in terms of extending learning and challenging our highest learners. Andrea is always willing to help however she can, supporting both students and teachers with enthusiasm and kindness. Her creativity, team spirit, and overall good vibes make her a wonderful asset to our school community and we are so glad she is here!
💡Tip of the Week from Mrs. Kebert: 💡
As parents and teachers it is essential that we are setting high, yet reasonable, expectations. A colleague once told me that "you can't rise to low expectations" and that is something that has stuck with me on my teaching journey. It's easy for us to let the chaos of life take over. We want to jump in and do things for our children and students, but these are the moments when we need to keep our expectations high and give them the opportunity to rise to the challenge. Giving them a safe space to try and fail so that they will try again will set children up for becoming creative problem solvers in the future.

Last week, ten super special 4th grade readers attended the LCSD Read-In at LHS. Each year, ten students from every elementary school in our district read the same book and join together to celebrate a love of reading. This year's Read-In book was titled Dogtown by Katherine Applegate and Jennifer Choldenko. The story follows three shelter pups and a robot dog through their adventures at the animal shelter.
Students at the Read-In participated in a robot coding activity, created over 100 dog toys out of recycled t-shirts to donate to the Lancaster County Animal Shelter and met a professional dog trainer and her former shelter turned therapy dog, Murphy. Thank you to the students who participated and celebrated the joy of reading!

Kailey Raynor is a natural choice for Tomahawk of the Week! When Caitlin Hunter went out on maternity leave, Kailey stepped in with both feet and embraced the role of lead teacher with confidence and heart. Her positive, happy spirit is contagious, and she brings energy and encouragement to everyone around her. Kailey truly loves kids, and it shows in the way she connects with them and supports them each day. She is hardworking, dependable, and always willing to jump in wherever she’s needed. Kailey’s natural leadership and servant heart make a lasting impact on her students and team, and we are so lucky to have her!

This week we had fun with our Black History Month activity! Students answered math questions which helped them solve the puzzle and reveal an interesting fact about Black History month!

Danielle Feigert is the perfect choice for Tomahawk of the Week because she embodies everything that makes our school strong. Her commitment and passion shine through in all she does, and her hard work never goes unnoticed. Danielle’s attention to detail ensures that nothing falls through the cracks, and her loving, supportive nature creates a positive environment for both students and colleagues. She consistently goes above and beyond to keep her crew organized and purposeful, making the most of every minute of instruction. Danielle truly squeezes every opportunity for growth out of each day, and her dedication makes a lasting impact on everyone around her...staff, students, and families!
🌟Tip of the Week from Mrs. Feigert:
Never underestimate the power of your patience, encouragement, and belief in a student. The seeds you plant today — through love, structure, and high expectations — grow into confidence, resilience, and lifelong learning.

This week we started our space unit! We learned all about where Earth's place is in the universe. We looked at a simulation to see how in the universe, there is the Milky Way Galaxy and then in the Galaxy lies the solar system and in the solar system we have lots of planets, including earth and the sun being at the center. Students got an opportunity to show their learning into a diagram showing where Earth is.

Ms. Johnnie from Laxer, Long and Savage has been here spending time with our kindergarten and 1st grade students teaching them all about dental health and what to expect when they visit the dentist.
Our students had so much fun learning in hands-on ways! They got to dress up in the same protective gear that hygienists and dentists wear while working on teeth, and they even had the chance to “act like” teeth while practicing how to be brushed and flossed properly.
They also learned about the right and wrong kinds of foods to eat to keep their teeth and mouths healthy and strong. 🥕🍎🍬 It was a wonderful (and fun!) way to build healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
Thank you, Ms. Johnnie and Laxer, Long and Savage, for helping our students smile a little brighter! 🪥
