Good afternoon, this is Rick Parker, Principal of Indian Land High School calling with our Sunday Weekly Update. I hope everyone has had a safe and wonderful Spring Break. The week before Spring Break on Monday we had our Cultural Fair where the We The People Club celebrated our ILHS diversity by having 7 cultural food trucks providing a variety of food choices and student booths displaying their cultural creativity! On Wednesday, we had a sendoff celebration cheering on our SPED students who were competing in the LCSD Special Olympics. Many students and staff volunteered for the event. Our SPED students competed against other schools in numerous track and field events. It was a great time by all! Friday, we ended the week with the Autism Walk around the track and then Student Congress hosted the Buff Puff Volleyball event in the gym! In between all of that we had WIN testing for Juniors and some Seniors. It was definitely a loaded week!
Now after Spring Break, this is the final month countdown until graduation and Summer Break! We are in what I call “The Season of Effort” with AP testing beginning May 5, EOC exams beginning May 13, Seniors who are not exempt final exams May 21, and Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior final exams May 27 and 28. See attached schedule.
Student attendance is critical right now until the end of the school year. Ninety percent of success is showing up and present (not just present, but fully engaged in the work). We are not counting the days but making the days count. Teachers will be finishing final units and begin reviewing; and EOC Blitz will be occurring during FLEX before EOCs to ensure students are ready for the State testing. Yes, your child being present is critical. Missing too many days could result in failure if Recovery is not completed.
